2018 State of US Textile Industry

The article “2018 state of the US Textile industry”, is about the agenda of president Donal Trump regarding the US textile segment. William (2018) suggests that Trump is compelling Washington to rethink about taxation and trade policies and reformation of regulations as seconded by the NCTO.  Furthermore, the article provides details on how the textile industry fared in the US in the year 2017 (William, 2018). It shows that the US textile sector has developed and occupied the international market. For instance, in the year 2017, the apparent total shipments amounted to about $77.9 billion, which is a 16 percent increase of the entire 2016 output. Also, in 2017 the sector employed an estimate of 550, 500 workers (William, 2018). US exports such as fabrics, yarns, fiber, and apparel and made-up were $ 28.6 billion, which approximately the amount of exports attained in 2016. Fifty-four percent of the shipments went to CAFTA-DR and AAFTA nations. The following paragraph is a discussion of some of the suggestions made by president Trump and supported by the NCTO. 

The article shows that NCTO supports the proposal made by President Trump. One of the recommendations is the need to improve trading relationships in reciprocity and fairness to impact a large portion of the Americans (William, 2018). William (2018) further connotes that given that NAFTA is one of the significant trading relationships for the US, NCTO strongly supports the association and the idea of the president to improve NAFTA. As a result, the text shows that NCTO has made for NAFTA. One of the goals is strengthening customs enforcement. Moreover, William (2018) indicates that Trump proposed the need to review all US free trade agreements based on performance. On the other hand, the NCTO recommends that the textile industry in the US should have access to fair prices of energy. Hence it suggests that there is a need to expand gas and oil capacity. 

If the US textile industry complies with Trump and NCTO’s suggestions, then NAFTA and other trading relationships are likely to improve, and the US will be able to export more products. Given that the US textile industry has occupied the global market, therefore, the global textile segment will improve. Nevertheless, the decision to expand oil and gas capacity to enable the US textile industry to access energy at fair prices will have adverse effects in the environment, such as air pollution. Thus, there is need to come up with alternative renewable sources of energy that would ensure a clean and healthy environment for the American population. 

The target audience for the article include the managers of the textile companies around the world and the general public who have interest in the segment. The article relates with the information learned in class since it covers issues affecting textile and apparel around the globe. The above premises discusses the textile industry in the US (William, 2018). It shows that the US textile segment has occupied the global market. Additionally, it informs the audience of the various international trade relationships that the US textile industry has formed. Therefore, it is valid to suggest that the article relates to textile apparel global environment since it covers details regarding the textile industry and the global market.
