5 Lawn Mower Technologies: Mowing in this Century

More than 150 years ago, the first grass-cutting contraption was built. It was heavy and tedious to use. Since then, the implement has evolved over the years. It becomes smaller and smaller. It also becomes easier to use with each advancement. In the advent of technological progress, lawn mower developers have also taken up the challenge. The new lawn mowers do not even need a human present to do the job. One only has to program the parameters and sit back.

1. Perimeter Definition

About three years ago, the first remote controlled lawn mower came into the market. You sit in the shade and operate the mower with a joystick. Well, now the joystick is unnecessary. By use of perimeter wires and other such tools, the mower will follow and stick inside the defined boundaries. The tools use electricity and magnetism science to enforce this feature. The human does not even have to watch. Most of the mowers have an alarm of sorts in case the machine is forcibly taken out of the defined area. This feature also ensures the mower does not annihilate the cute flower hedges at the edges of the trimming area. 

2. Height Control

Some people like very short grass. Cut as close to the round as possible. Others like a bit of height for cushion when they want to listen to the ground pulsate. Different people have different preferences and they are entitled to them. These preferences were very hard o satisfy in the age of manual mowing. However, with the new tech savvy lawn mowers one is able to feed their preferred grass height into the machine. These automatic mowers have an easier time achieving even grass height than the older models. They are also equipped with strong enough blades that can cut through very thickly stemmed grass at the first try. This way, the grass is not frayed but rather cleanly cut. 

3. Safety Features

The older mowers were effective, sure, but they were also very dangerous. In one swift move one could be trapped underneath the thing sand get severely injured. Imagine the same accident involving a child who can barely lift the thing or a pet. These techy lawn mowers are equipped with collision detection features. These are meant to let the machine know that there is an obstacle ahead and that measures should be taken to avoid that. They also have sensors, which turn the blades off if objects get close. The same happens if the mower is lifted or turned over. Some even have some sort of alarm to let whoever is nearby that all is not right. A child could very easily be curious and lift to see whatever is underneath. If the blades are still running at full speed, there I sno telling how severe the injuries could be. 

4. Weather Proof

This is not common with all the lawn mowers but it is pretty common. The mowers do not give up on work just because of a little dampness. This is an advantage on so many different levels. The first being, lawn gets mowed regardless. The second is that the grass that has been cut will act as mulch then manure once it rots from the moisture. It is a win all around. 

Most of those robotic lawn mowers that do not have the ability to work I the rain are able to detect when the clouds are about to let it rip. When the machines realize that it is about to rain, they ride back onto their little port and sleep until it is dry enough to mow again. 

5. App Control

Save the best for last. One can check on the lawn mower on their phone. From your phone, you can check on the battery. You can check the mow schedule. You can check if the mower needs some repairs or a new part. You can even start a quick mow before guests arrive for a party. You can change parameters like grass height. This is not common in all of them but most allow this. Those that do not have app control have a little console where they can check all these things and do adjustments. 

Not only does this new mower do the work silently, most brands have a solar charging feature so hoorah for the environment. Do not suffer under the scorching sun anymore. Sit back and enjoy the smell of freshly cut grass.
