FACTORS THAT LEAD TO STRESS

Stress is the body’s response to demand or threat that arises from a changing or new situation. The body reacts by making physiological changes known as adaptive responses to resolve the threat or new demand. Stress may be caused by a variety of issues ranging from simple issues to more complex matters. Some people are however generally more prone to stress than others. The level of stress varies from mild to acute depending on how much the body must adapt.

One cause of stress is the accumulation of a variety of stressful situations. These are in most cases those situations that one cannot control. A good example is pressure at the workplace paired with a stressful relationship. Stress may also be caused as a result of an acute response to a traumatic even. A good example is the sight of a life threatening situation or survival of an accident. Third, stress may arise in accompaniment of a health situation like heart disease. Certain people are likely to be more stressed than others. Older persons for example have problems recovering from stressful situations. The cause of this is sometimes age wears out the stress combating systems in the brain making it harder to recover. The old also harbor a variety of stressful situations including the loss of a spouse, medical issues, changing in living standards, and financial problems. Working mothers regardless of their marital status also experience higher stress levels. The stressful situations may be so adverse as to cause health effects. The cause of this is that they usually get a more diffuse workload than their male counterparts. Such stress should however be resolved as it has been known to affect the rest of the family especially children.
