Dr. Corey used the free association technique, which is the Psychotherapy golden rule. This technique involves the patient lying in a position of relaxation and talks freely regarding anything that appears in their mind devoid of searching for a particular subject or topic. The significance of free association is that the critical mind’s intervention is absent to edit spontaneous thoughts. In Stan’s case however he seems to be failing to contact the free association technique at first for the reason that he censors his answers when Dr. Corey asks him particular questions. However later he is seen to open up and show signs of free association once he speaks about his dad (Dr. Corey, 2014).
Jung’s ideas greatly reflect the actions of the contemporary humans for the reason that many people depend majorly on science along with logic. According to Jung, they could greatly more benefit by incorporating spirituality along with the recognition of their unconscious realm. Thus, the present human being would view Jung’s concepts as what everyone should currently adopt. Additionally a journey to identify self should be simultaneous and the present individual could support this idea. The shadow concept is unrealistic since a shadow may appear in dreams and that may assume forms of a snake, a monster and so on (CAMPBELL, 2011). The anima or animus is applicable since there may exist a true individual apart from what people depict. The persona’s actuality of to appear in dreams is unreal. The id is similar to persona in almost all aspects regarding the personality of an individual. Additionally the ego and animus hold similar concepts regarding the real person. The superego is non-similar with any of the Jung’s concepts (Stey & Lapsley, 2011).
During the Adlerian
session the themes of self-denial and self-realization are coming up as Stan
attempts to explain how he felt for instance when he was unable to help the
kitten he somewhat hated himself. Additionally, he is unfamiliar with the
pledge of allegiance this makes him experiences self-denial. Stan is seen to now realize and accept his
personality and I think this will greatly help him change the perceived
perception regarding himself to better person who views events from an
optimistic viewpoint (Dr. Corey, 2014).
