A Visit at My Grandmother’s Home

Childhood memories are some of the best memories that most individuals hold. They entail numerous encounters with friends and relatives and at that young age, they are very interesting. Childhood memories make us forget some of the trouble that we are undergoing currently when one takes back their mind in the past (BowValleyCollege 2). I personally remember my visit to my grandmother when I was six years old, which was during Christmas period.

As I looked past the bright Christmas tree near the window, I saw never-ending rain pouring on the earth and splashing on the brick roof of my grandmother’s old but descent house. I shivered and turned around towards my grandmother. I could see her filing her pencils using a blade along with unloading the paintbrushes and watercolor paints form the somewhat large seemingly dirty metal box. A baggy lambs-wool robe is what she wore covering her lengthy slightly patterned skirt. Her white hair was well combed and was lying calmly on her shoulders. I shifted from the sofa towards her armchair to watch her rearrange a flowers’ bouquet that she was about to begin painting for her neighbor. Here I smelt her familiar sweet but weak perfume along with a strong odor produced by her watercolors, which overwhelmed the flower smells. I looked closely at the nearly completed huge and appealing painting and saw the penciled signature bearing her initials it read “D.C.”.

Overpowered by the odor of the watercolors I moved back to my original position on the reddish leather sofa that was directly facing a group of drawers, which I used as sanatorium to my stuffed dolls and animals. Prior to settling on her painting job, she had emptied the drawers for me and assisted me cover my animals using the dry wash garments, which I utilized as bandages. I embraced my little monkey that suffered from a broken leg tightly in my arms and sang it a consolation song. The melodic tones clashed slightly against the Christmas carols being by granny’s transportable boom box. Gently she turned towards my direction not rebuke me but to ask me my thoughts about how long my monkey would take to recover. I answered that her progress in the sanatorium seemed quite impressive and she would be out in a week probably. After showing her huge relief regarding the news she moved forward her painting table from the armchair and proceeded in the kitchen to refill her somewhat huge tea mug.  She also decides to prepare a cup of chocolate for me. She took the nutrition powder ensured it lumps then added fresh milk form the milkman delivered that morning to make it precisely as I desired.

As I could see mind float away towards my favorite of her paintings, once she painted a farmyard. When I saw I it was partially completed such that the piglets in the painting were colored but the background was uncolored. However, it still looked very magnificent since to me I thought the piglets were flying, after I said how good it looked she awarded it to me and I hung it in my room on the wall.  The entrance of my mum and my two sisters coming from the marketplace-soaking wet interrupted my dreamland expedition. I surely see that as one my best Christmas days well spent at my grandmother’s residence.
