Nursing Theory

A nursing theory is a group of perceptions, demarcations, associations, and conventions consequential from tending replicas and projects that are purposive, methodical assessment singularities by scheming precise inter-relationships amid the ideas for the tenacities of envisaging, recounting, elucidating and recommending (Hills & Watson, 2011). This paper will shift its focus on the nursing theory of caring that was initiated by Jean Watson and of its relation to the philosophy of person, nursing, health, and environment.

Nursing philosophies are formed by personal experience, beliefs, values and knowledge. In view of Jean Watson’s theory, she describes nursing as an ordinary discipline that clinches mortality idiosyncratic and philosophical caring for kinfolks, persons and assemblies (Watson & Watson, 2012). The nursing profession is scrutinized through the lens of its metaparadigm. A metaparadigm denotes a group of ideas that offer a configuration for how the nursing discipline should function. It consists of four basic concepts that include: nursing accountabilities, the patient in person, patient’s environment, and the health of the patient (Hills & Watson, 2012).

Watson’s theory is related to the philosophy of environment in the sense that caring is present in all humanity. She further explains that care is conveyed by the ethos of the vocation as an exceptional way of dealing with its milieu (Watson & Watson, 2012). Nursing is apprehensive with endorsing health, averting illness, taking care of the sick, and reinstating vigor. The concept of nursing emphasizes on fitness advancement and management of malady. Jean defines nursing as anthropological science of societies and mortal health-illness proficiencies that are arbitrated by proficient, peculiar, methodical, artistic, and virtuous human relations (Hills &Watson, 2011). According to WHO (World Health Organization), Jean added three elements on the definition of health: the deficiency of illness, a universal adaptive-upkeep glassy of diurnal working, and a great close of inclusive bodily, societal and intellectual working.Watson defines a mortal being as a valued person to be assisted, respected, understood, nurtured, and cared for (Watson & Watson, 2012).
