GEN WK3 DB1 Response1 (75 Words) : Solution Essays

Identify the global societal issue you have chosen to research for your Final Paper, an argumentative essay, and explain why further research on this topic is important.

The global societal issue that is caused by Veterans begin with mental health issues and getting addicted to drugs. What people don’t realize is that when our military men and women come back from the war they have gone through a lot and seen more than the normal person can imagine. Having Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a big part of the problems too.  As some of us when 9-11 happen it shock the United States and cause our military to go in overdrive to protect us. For those service men and women, it carried them to place they didn’t want to be, but they stood their ground and fought us. As some got hurt and some didn’t make it back home to their loved ones. The ones who did come home came back with more problems than we have in our daily lives. Having to live with the stress of seeing what happened to cause more damage than good for them. Another problem is that they came home to no jobs and no place to live. Enough though their job should be there when they get back. Some companies just don’t do that. They feel like they need that spot filled and that the production needs to be gotten regardless of what is going on. Veterans also come home to the house they use to live in be rented out to someone else. Regardless if they are gone a year or two the landlord should have the respect to find out what is going on before that happens. I think this needs to be discussed forth and more research needs to be done on it. In my opinion, most to all our Veterans are not begin treated fair.

Provide a clear and concise thesis statement that includes a solution to the global societal issue.

Majority of our service men and women become homeless because they have mental issues and became addicted to drugs. Among the Veterans, most of them are poor and have no place or no one to turn to.

Explain how this global societal issue impacts a specific population.

Among Veterans today most of them are men. Men are most likely to become homeless because they tend to turn to drugs or drinking to help them cope with their problems. With little to no help or group support, they can turn to they will most like be lost on the streets and no one will look or care what will happen to them.

Locate a peer-reviewed scholarly source and provide statistical data that you found surprising on the topic.

The article I found was History of co-occurring disorders and current mental health status among homeless Veterans by Kele Ding, Matthew Slate, & Jingzhen Yang. (2018). According to Kele, Jingzhen (2018), “Among the all-male participating homeless veterans (n = 253), about 20% did not report date of birth. Of the remaining cases (n = 199), 37.2% were younger than 50 years of age, 51.0% were aged 50 to 64, and 12.0% were aged 65 or older. The age range was 22 to 78. Missing cases in age were replaced by the average of known ages in the model test. The most commonly reported race was White (n = 149, 58.9%), followed by Black (n = 86, 34.0%). Nearly half (44.3%) of participants had served in the military for more than three years, nearly one-third (32.8%) served one to three years, and slightly over 10% (10.7%) served less than one year. More than two-thirds (n = 180,71.1%) had served in a war zone. Of the total sample, 32.8% reported that they never married, 44.7% were divorced, and 19.4% were married”.
