This week’s materials cover important issues such as Human Rights and Equity in the Workplace. The Federal Employment Equity Act (EEA) was enacted to address the problem of the lack of representation in certain groups of people in federally regulated workplaces. Although the EEA only directly affects federally regulated employers, the principles that have come out of the Act have been applied to hiring policies that private companies are adopting.
For this week’s discussion forum, you are to read the LinkedIn article (linked below) and then research the ways that companies are addressing employment equity issues through Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) efforts. You can find out what types of initiatives companies are using to address and improve ED&I issues in their workplace or you can come up with a policy/proposal of your own.
Although sharing what Canadian companies are doing is preferred, feel free to use company examples from outside Canada as the focus here is not on jurisdiction but, rather, pro-active policies and initiatives that could be potentially adopted/adapted by Canadian companies.
