A system of rules and regulations to manage behaviour in society. Although this is a simple definition it has come to my attention that law is a complex subject. I became attracted to the idea of supporting people resolve their own legal problems and aiding them in achieving justice. As I have progressed through my A levels, I have realised in all subjects I study, that there are several elements of the justice system involved and this is where my enthusiasm for studying law originated.

As well as this, I have many close family members in the legal profession and I believe this gave me an insight in to different legal avenues and therefore an advantage, as I have professional guidance to equip me throughout my degree. A law degree would help me achieve my ambition in having a successful future career in law and I am motivated, keen and passionate. I am most looking forward to university because the course includes learning about the diverse practice areas and the evolving legal system. My A levels have equipped me very well for the course as they all involve an element of essay writing, and the ability to research is a massive skill needed for the course and feel I have already developed it. For example, in all subjects, the is a need for wider reading to support conclusions and arguments.

The criminology unit in sociology, developed my skills in empathy and gave me the opportunity to recognize the wide range of people in society and how they are affected by certain decisions and actions of others. This is important when studying and practising law, as you must be able to deal with people from all walks of life. Biology has helped me develop useful skills including the application of knowledge and the necessity to think analytically about my answer. From experience and my own interaction with legal professionals, I am aware that applying the law to myriad circumstances and cases is essential.

Throughout my school years, I have developed my confidence massively and now I actively take part and thoroughly enjoy presentations and debates, as I love expressing my opinion and persuading others. My greatest attributes are my organisation, hardworking and determination. There have been many experiences outside the classroom, that have reinforced my interest for studying law. I participated on the National Citizen Service programme, which `taught me to value teamwork and consider all views and public speaking, boosting my confidence. I recently went on a 4-day SPRUCE course organised by Judge Rose, one of the leading judges in Bradford. It interested me that a law degree wasn’t just limited to a career as solicitor or barrister, but there were also many other aspects of the legal profession, for example the crown prosecution service. I also enjoyed debating in a court and acting in pretend trials, which gave me a good feel for the environment. I was advised by many solicitors to read around in the news and be commercially aware of current affairs. I have joined law society. org, where I read articles by legal professionals, expanding my knowledge of world issues.

For example, the recent case regarding Grenfell Tower and the possible charges of corporate man slaughter faced by those responsible. I strengthened my communication skills, during a week of work experience in an optician’s firm. I’m grateful for the experience as it was the first encounter in a professional environment and allowed me to have a feel of a day in the life of a professional. Realising that I wanted to pursue a career in law I was eager to gain some work experience and I have worked closely with many solicitors working in diverse practice areas. I learnt about the dynamic environment that makes no two days the same and every day just as demanding and unique as the last. I would love the opportunity to study law at this higher level and I am looking forward to exploring the different sectors of law. I am aware the course will intellectually challenging, but I am determined to do whatever it keen to bring principle to a world with so much injustice. I can’t imagine a more rewarding career and I am 100% committed.
