We live in a complex society where “it is self-evident that all men are created equal” is just a saying that is untrue in the modern world.
First, obviously all men are not created equal some of us are strong and some are weak, some are intelligent, and some are not, some stand-out while others blend, some are rich, and some are poor with no food on their plate and so on. We are not born equal but in other people’s point of view, us and every person that has been brought up to this world are equal to every other person. However, we are born to have equal rights, to have the right to own the result of our hard work, to have the rights to make decisions for our own fate, we are entitled to decide what goals to achieve, what beliefs to follow, the right to vote, where to live and whom to marry and that makes us essentially unequal to each other, and that’s fine- it is the right that makes us equal in the end.
Second, every one of us is unique, and we all have different sets of knowledge and skills that we use as our tools to achieve our own goals. Additionally, we all face different trials or challenges which we must conquer that could certainly lead us to success in life. We are unique in many ways, we choose our own destinies, and we have our own unique paths to success, but this does not mean that we have to go through life’s challenges alone. We must share our knowledge, skills, and experiences with members of our communities and learn lessons from people who have faced similar difficulties so that we can achieve success together.
Lastly, while the term “all men are created equal” were considered only to white men who owned properties during at the time of the Declaration of Independence, we all know that it is now been understood to incorporate all mankind among “all men”. With this new comprehension, there are still questions of whether we are still following the universal standard of equality. Are people living in an undeveloped are not understood to be created equal?
In my own experience, growing up in a third world country, it is obvious that people living in a develop country have more chances of success in life and more opportunities to pursue their happiness, live their own life and live in liberty than people who live in an undeveloped country. It is very likely for us to be all equal or to have the same degree of abilities in life, if we were all on the same intellectual wavelength, then there would be no individual thought. Clearly a person will naturally do better at something over another person or vice versa. People are different from each other in many ways that make us unique. We all have different experiences, different skills, and different choices in life and it is not wrong to be different. If we were all the same, then the world would be bland and dull. If we just learn how to share our uniqueness, help others, and enjoy our differences and opportunities we might make this world beautiful.
