The U.S. encountered many problems and challenges during the Great Depression. They ran into poverty, high unemployment rates and despair. All of this increased the rate of finding a solution to our problem. Then in 1932, president Franklin Roosevelt proposed the New Deal. He said it would ease our suffering. But many people were against his idea, and in the end, these people were right. The new deal failed to end the Great Depression, although it did provide a short term solutions for economic recovery.

Now let’s dive into what the New Deal was. The New Deal was a series of projects, programs and public work proposed by President Roosevelt. In terms of relief, the New Deal provided a lot of opportunities for families and others, but it also provided some unconstitutional things as well . For example, the AAA which mean Agricultural Adjustment Act was made to boost agricultural prices. The government paid farmers to not plant on some areas of their land and brought livestock for slaughtering which was declared unconstitutional due to the killing of livestock and crops when many citizens were starving. The main group of people who benefited from the AAA were farmers.

Now let’s talk about the opportunities the New Deal gave. One of the many programs was the Civil Work Administration AKA the CWA which was founded in 1933. The CWA was a short-lived program that made labor jobs for millions of unemployed people. The program was shut down on March 31st, 1934, after spending 200$ Million dollars per month. The accomplishments from this is that in total the CWA workers built or improved 255,000 miles of road, 40,000 schools, 3.700 playgrounds, and 1000 airports. I think that that the New Deal worked at the time, but over time it started to cause havoc.

Now let’s talk about a more modern deal, the Green New Deal. The Green New deal is a set of proposed economic programs in the U.S. that addresses the economy and climate change. The Green New Deal is a more modern version of the New Deal, but where did the Green New Deal come from? The Green party’s candidate Jill Stein proposed a Green New Deal during the 2012 presidential election, as a part of her campaign. The Green Party continued to suggest a Green New Deal for another 6 years until in November 2018 a Green New Deal Party started to form in the Democratic party. By the end of November, 18 Democratic members of Congress were co-sponsoring a proposed House Select Committee. The Green New Deal calls for all gas powered vehicles to be gone by 2040, and calls for 100% clean renewable energy usage.
