I am a healthy human being. These words are said daily by people with confidence; although they may not truly be positive of their health status. We would all like to believe that we are immune to all types of diseases. We are ignorant that our bodies are extremely vulnerable, and at any moment our health can change for the worse.
As a result, many programs are established to inform people of communicable diseases such as cancer and cholera. Although some ways of displaying their support or awareness seem complete innocent, others take it as disrespectful.As a result bracelets for breast cancer awareness and cholera outbreaks are causing great controversy. So how is one to determine how to publicly announce the correct way of settling a particular situation? Breast Cancer is a world wide known disease. This disease is so common that one in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer. The chances of contracting breast cancer are higher in women older than 50 years of age. Breast cancer is usually in families who have a family history with breast cancer.
Breast cancer starts in the tissues of the breast.There are instances where lumps form in other parts of the body other than the breast. Breast cancer claims 40,000 life’s yearly and the numbers continue to increase. Another disease that is a huge controversial issue occurring in Hattie Port de Prince, is cholera. Cholera is caused by a bacterium called Vibrio cholera which is found in dirty food or water. Cholera causes diarrhea and vomiting resulting in severe dehydration, leading to death. Currently this disease has taken away 800 lives in Hattie.

In order to announce the importance of breast cancer bracelets where made. The bracelets ‘I Love boobies” are stirring up conflict in schools. The controversie is mainly due to the word boobie. School officials state that the bracelets show an improper conduct and violate dress codes. While others believe it is just another method of supporting the cause, they have been banned from several schools. The supports state that they will not be taking the bracelets off because it is a cause they support.The situation has caused many arguments, board meetings upon board meetings have been set up in order to come to a consensus.
On the other hand, Cholera in Hattie has bought attention through media and newspaper. Even though media has demonstrated the need for help, not much has been done. Since the number of victims is increasing more medical help and attention is needed. Doctors are now educating Haitians about cholera in order to decrease the amount of victims.The difference between breast cancer advertisement and today’s cholera outbreak, is that one has more support than the other. Overall, our ways of showing our support will always have an impact on people; whether if it is good or bad. Regardless, people decide and standby what they desire to believe.
Even though the outbreak in cholera and breast cancer bracelet situation is different, they share something in common. These topics are someone’s reality. For this reason it is vital for the public to be notified and supportive of these causes.
