Data Management Aspect
Throughout my experience, I have been using data management aspects in different researches. One of my best and skilled areas in data management is strategies of data collection. Vogt (2010) explains that strategy of data collection is based on two major objectives; collecting data of high quality and motivating respondents. While collecting data, I always aim at quality data which I achieve through quality data collection instruments and good procedures. I always ensure that my sample sizes are at low level. Another data collection strategy I use is increasing the rate of response while reducing errors in the survey.
Coordination of data entry is another area of data management that is well skilled. This is especially while using electronic health records. I also like interactive data entry which involves keying of coded data on to CD, diskette and disk. I enjoy integrating computer based quality controls in the field where data consistency and entry. Using digital methods in entering and collecting data has become easy, consistent and gives quality and exact information.
Data processing is another area with that encounter every other day and I have gained a lot of skills in this area. For many, data checking, editing and coding is a hard task but through experience I have familiarized myself with the task. I like assigning numerical codes to my data this eases entry of information to the computer. Questionnaires data needs to be checked using five ways; skip checks, range checks, Typographic checks, and consistency check.
Data analysis is the process of cleaning, transforming, inspecting and modeling data with the goal of supporting decision making, discovering useful information and suggesting conclusion (Govaert, 2009). In this data management area I am not fully skilled especially on techniques of analyzing quantitative data. Cognitive biasness is one of analysis of data aspect that limits effectiveness in analysis of research data (Kumar, 2005). Checking the quality of measurement is also an issue like analyzing homogeneity that indicates measurement instrument reliability.
