The strategic management model that I found most valuable for my personal experience is the strategic audit process we discussed during week one.  I believe it’s important for leadership to be able to take a step back, take stock of where things currently are and if they are progressing properly. This gives the organization an opportunity to course correct if necessary or stick with original plans if they are working out the way they are supposed to.  A strategic audit can “Supplement a corporation’s strategic management and complement its strategic decision-making process,” (Wheelen & Hunger, 1987).  The audit gives the leadership in an organization the opportunity to identify what the current mission and goals are, as well as how the organization is performing, how corporate culture and resources are having an impact, and how the external environment is factoring in to the business (Wheelen & Hunger, 1987).  

My current career in the airline industry needs the point of view provided by a strategic audit because the industry can be very volatile at times.  I believe that having the ability to take a step back, analyze what is working and what is not working and change tactics if necessary, can provide the ability to adapt to the shifts of the industry.  Being able to look critically at decisions from a logical point of view could potentially eliminate the challenges my company faces with territorial middle management who are less likely to implement new or different ideas because they fail to see the big picture or the impact their decisions are having on the overall success of the airline.  As I continue working with the company and potentially transferring to different departments I believe utilizing the knowledge of a strategic audit can provide a unique opportunity for growth and getting to know a new department or organization.
