Factors Affecting Control of Diabetes among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients in a Hospital
The goal of my study will be to discuss the factors that affect control of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in a hospital. The reason why I want to undertake this research is due to the high death rate in diabetes. According to Vinke & Duijn, (2011), diabetes has twice the risk of death in comparison to individual of the same age who does not have the condition. Type 2 diabetes is the most prevalent variety of diabetes that may appear later in life caused by defective secretion of insulin by the Beta cells of pancreas, and insulin resistance due to weakening insulin-mediated glucose disposal. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90 to 95 percent of all cases that are diagnosed with diabetes (WHO, 2016).
WHO, (2016) has revealed that up to 85% of morbidities and complications can be prevented, effectively treated or delayed with healthy diet and lifestyle, appropriate monitoring and medication and visiting health professionals. This diabetes type is increasingly prevalent, very common but largely preventable. In undertaking the research, I will be able to identify the knowledge that the society has towards diabetes, what they are doing and the present gap. Prevention remains better than cure; with this idea in mind I will conduct the research with concern of early diagnoses. Taylor (2012) explains that controlling the illness with treatment and behavioral change will reduce the number of complications and death. Type 2 diabetes is important as it affects all age groups, race and ethnicity. I will use both primary (surveys) and secondary sources like books, journals, internet sources, news articles and others
