Bullying involves a misuse of power in a relationship, bullying is usually not a one-off-it is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated over time, Bullying involves behaviour that can cause harm – it is not a normal part of growing up. Bullying can happen anywhere, in person or online aka cyberbullying, physical or social e.g. relational. Bullying could be obvious or even worse hidden.

The psychological effect of bullying include depression, anxiety, low self esteem, self-harming behaviour, alcohol and drug use and dependence, aggression, and involvement in violence or crime. Research has consistently shown that bullying can have a negative impact on how well children and adolescents rate of bullying in New Zealand are very high compared to other countries. New Zealand has not been reducing bullying in primary school. This negative has been evident since 1994
