The sociology of frienship gives a basis of the types of friendships and their effects to the social status of individuals. 

There is the friendship of the white, heterosexual men which has been described as the least emotionally supportive relationship in the American society. men are normally friends but the they prefer enganging in activities rather than conversations which are usually supposed to help people get through tough times. The article refers to these friendship types as shoulder-to-shoulder friendships.

The things that women want to get from friendships are basically the same as those that men want. The difference is that the men do not get the same out of friendships with their fellow women. This eventually translates to the men being less social and more inclined to keeping their problems to themselves. Many men do not realize that in the long run the society prevents them from being open and able to connect with their inner selves.

The development of friendship and how people make friends begin from their childhood. 

The article focuses on the development of friendships as people grow. It is important to know how friendships come about and why they turn out as they do. A social activity like forming friendships is something people learn as they are being socialized right from childhood and into adulthood. As a result, the most important friendships in a person’s life are those that they form as children. They help shape the character and personality of the said individual.
