Policemen of the World

International Events from the Past Five Years That Can Be Traced Back To a Foreign Policy Created After the Civil War

The United States has for a long time acted as a silent watcher of all things that happen to the international community. The distant policy of the United States is the method through which the United States interacts with other nations and communities across the globe. The US puts great value in communication between itself and other governments, companies and even separate citizens. America’s influence on how it relates with the rest of the world is guided by its foreign rule that is sometimes also referred to as its distant rule. Although the policy changes after certain periods, its main facts and guidelines have remained the same since its formation after the civil war. Today, the United States is involved in how governments, science and armed fields are run across the world. Many times, the contents of the foreign policy, as well as its reach have been judged based on the current leaders of the United States. The US has been directly involved in several major contemporary events in the world as a result of its foreign policy. Two of these events are

  1. Its reproachment with Cuba which had various consequences and has been the driver for the numerous amounts of Cuban immigrants entering the US in the last years.
  2. Preventing nuclear weapon development programs in countries that it has deemed unfit. These may include Belarus and Iran among others.

Aspects of Us History since 1865 That Has Led to the US’s Rise as a World Super Power Policeman

For America to establish its status as the world policeman, it was paramount that it laid down the necessary foundation in the form of rules. Its main at this point was to control how weapons were produced in countries across the world. This is especially those that it viewed as a threat to the basic freedoms of human beings. Its role as a world superpower has been felt across the world over the years through several events such as its policies on terrorism and its immigration policies (Nikou, 2014).

Several aspects led to the United States establishing itself as the a world superpower and a global policeman. The United States, after the rebellion, began to construct the railroad which influenced its rise as a financial giant. Additionally, the US, through Christianity, was able to penetrate various remote parts of the world, allowing it to establish its roots across the globe. Finally, the US was one of the few countries that did not make great losses and lose its status as a superpowers after the two world wars. This, coupled with its previous successes elevetated it even further into the position of a superpower. Many countries, after the world war II asked for support in terms of economic, nuclear and military strength when they felt unable to deal with certain problems (Wolfe, 2012).

International Incidents since World War II Where America Has Taken On a Policing Role

After the Second World War, America was heavily involved in the shaping of international policies to prevent such occurrences in the future. Over the years, the US has taken an active role in preventing or influencing certain events that would fall under these policies. One such incidence has been the role of the FBI in the drug business. The FBI has been involved in the termination of many drug cartels, often by infiltrating these cartels directly and stopping them from the inside (Wolfe, 2012).  The FBI has cooperated with many global narcotics crackdown departments.

Another international incident where America took on a policing role was one involving the soviet Union (Wolfe, 2012). The United States was so intensely against the union that its opposition led to the cold war. The war went on until the Union could no longer ignore the power the United States held against it. Additionally, another incident was when the United States offered great support for the Polish and Russian people when they were fighting against their governments to establish a democratic and capitalistic government.

Driving Forces That Fueled International Policy Decisions Involving the International Incidents You Outlined Previously

A number of issues drove the United States to intervene in several situations through the established international policies. Some of these issues are listed below.

  1. For Russia, the division between those who supported a capitalistic government and those who supported communism established a situation, which then led to the cold war after the United States government, was involved.. this situation led to the division of the different groups of countries involved into the eastern bloc and the western bloc (Solomon, 2011). Since the United States was most greatly involved in the western bloc, it became apparent that it was once again acting as an international police. The western bloc also had a heavy influence of many international policy makers, which made it more authentic.
  2. The anti-Ballistic missile treaty between the United States and the USSR was also another driving force.  This treaty, which expired in 2009, was aimed to ensure that war was prevented between the two nations.  Major conflicts between nations appeared to allow the US to even more strongly take its position as a superpower.
