Forms of technology used in saving lives

Social network can be used in a search and rescue mission. The social network is left only for those in the rescue mission so as to avoid overloading of the internet. It can be used by the rescuers or the victims where the victims can give directions to the places they are. The rescuers can also use the platform to communicate to each other or with the victims. It can also be used to ask for help from well wishers. There is also the NASA invention machine used to identify a heart beat meters away which can be used to locate people who might have been buried in an accident but are still alive. Drones are also used to collect data from places which are hard to access to be able to see how much damage has been done and also to find if help might be needed in some hidden places. They can also be used to determine how dangerous or safe some places are before the rescue teams are sent to those places (Palen,  Anderson,  Mark, Martin, Sicker, Palmer, & Grunwald,  2010) 

Where the social network is used, a platform like face book can be used to ask for help from other people and urgencies. Face book as a social network and thus can be used be used to announce about an incident and request people near that place to go offer any help they can. It can also be used by the victims and rescuers to communicate. The victims can inform rescues where they are while the rescuers can communicate with each other in case any help is needed. These has helped in saving lives by getting to the victims faster and also getting help faster than it could have been.  Due to improvement in technology NASA machines have been invented which are able to detect a heart beat meters away in case of an explosion where people have been buried in the ground. The machines are FINDER sensors which are wheeled to the destroyed land searching for people who could be trapped somewhere but still alive. These machines have been used in saving people for example in case of an earthquake where there have helped save people who had been missing for up to six days alive. These equipments should be made available as they can be of  great importance.  Drones are also very important as they help to show pictures of places which might be hard to reach. They can also be used to study the area and determine where help might be needed. These will help to determine which group of people should be sent in certain areas. The drones can also be used to discover which areas are safe and which ones can be dangerous or would require specialized personnel (Palen,  Anderson,  Mark, Martin, Sicker, Palmer, & Grunwald,  2010

Level of government involved in disaster management.

The local government is the one responsible in disaster management in a community. This is because it has first hand information about the community’s infrastructure, environment, economy and social needs and thus enabling them to offer help in case of a disaster. The local government prepares a local disaster managment plan and also comes up with possible and effective disaster management practices. It is also the responsibility of the local government to teach the community on how to respond to disaster, manage local disaster operations and also decide on how disaster resources are to be used (Queensland, 2011).

How the capabilities were used

The capabilities were used in the Napal earthquake where the NASA invention machines were used to save people. The NASA’s FINDER (finding individuals for disaster and emergency response) device uses microwave-radar technology to find the heart beat of people who could be trapped behind solid concrete or rubble. Other small ground-based sensors have also been used in similar searches.  In the Napal case, the NASA FINDER was used to rescue four men who had been buried under about ten feet of mud, debris and bricks. Drones with cameras have been used to identify survivor and also in determining how the survivors can be reached. These cameras can recognize something which is as far as 1000 feet away. The drones are used to take photographs which can be used to prepare maps which can be used to determine how some areas can be reached. The social network can help in facilitating communication between the rescuers and victims and also connecting them with the supporters. It can also be used for requesting for help from people who could be close to that place or from other people all over the country or the world (Palen,  Anderson,  Mark, Martin, Sicker, Palmer, & Grunwald,  2010).

NASA FINDER machine was very important in saving life as it helped identify people who had been buried or who could have been trapped somewhere who would have ended up dead if they did not get help early enough for example in Napal 4 men were discovered who had been trapped by debris. Drones helped in saving in that they helped to determine the places where help could be needed and thus helping the lives of people who would not have been seen or found if searched for manually.  Social network was important in saving lives in that it helped in finding help for the victims from the social medial. Having many people in the rescue team meant there was a possibility of many people being taken care of and thus more lives will be saved (Kedar,  Owen,  Jones, Donnelan,  Glasscoe,  & Duren, 2016).
