Monitoring the Future: Key Findings on Adolescent Drug Use
For this activity each of you will write a compressed  version of a scientific journal article. We are pretending, since none  of you will actually collect empirical data, but your submissions should  adopt the format common to most research papers.

Each of your submissions should include each section – introduction, methods, results, and discussion.
In preparation, please review the Monitoring the Future  report. This is the source of all your data. This document also  describes the methodology, which you will need to summarize (in your own  words) in the methods section of your paper.

Focus on twenty year trends regarding particular drugs.  Pick one of interest, theorize about why the shift occurred, and  research possible causes.
Describe the trend, in your introduction.
Describe the research methodology in your methods section.
Present specific data in your results section.
Your discussion section will follow. Discuss the  results, acknowledging limitations, including theories about why usage  increased or decreased over time (sometimes significantly from one year  to another). Why did this happen? Consider the role of the media,  education, parenting, public awareness, and significant social changes  that may accompany the shift. What can be done to increase success in  the future?
Your paper may end with a conclusion, a slight departure  from the IMRaD model, but a conclusion can be a good way to separate  “you” from the data and literature. Stick to the facts throughout the  paper, saving personal reflections for the conclusion.
