PubMed is Unique for its search settings most recently updated in 2009 (E, 2009). It has features that allow the searcher to use natural language where the database does not acknowledge stop words. PubMed utilizes Automatic Term Mapping to ensure that all the key words are included in the search by the data base. Automatic Term Mapping is usually used by the data base automatically adds ‘And’ between the words keyed in for the search to ensure that all results are checked and presented to the user (Lu, 2011). PubMed is manually updated by a committee regularly but not fast enough. The third unique feature is the presentation of the findings from the initial to the most recent one. PubMed is strictly for medical researches. Other types of databases that operate in a similar way of PubMed include High Wire Press (Vanhecke , Barnes, Zimmerman, & Shoichet, 2007) and Web of Science among others (Chapman, 2009).
These data bases make it easy for researchers and scholars to find information online (McKibbon, 1995).The subjects and key words are effective in generating the best evidence promptly. This is because of the use of Boolean by the data base automatically adding the word and between key words being searched. This makes sure that all the key words are searched in all the materials that are updated on the database. When comparing the time taken to update PubMed and Web of Science, they may be considerably slow because they are manually updated by people after vetting the articles to include in the database (Michigan State University, n.d.). PubMed does not keep a record of the citations made of articles in their data base while Web of Science does. The two data bases also differ in that PubMed is strictly about Medical issues while Web of Science has all articles pertaining to science. Comparison between PubMed and High Wire reveals that PubMed is faster in getting results of searches (Vanhecke , Barnes, Zimmerman, & Shoichet, 2007).
