The poem has a strong message that is coded into poetic language creatively. The poem can be used to teach young people on literary skills that are at risk of being forgotten by the effects of technology to the education and literary world. People who would rather sit and watch a film instead of reading the story from a book are the intended targets. The figures of speech used by Angelou in this poem are diverse and interesting enough to appeal to people who do not like reading start doing so. It is well crafted and educative.

Literature has been for a long time been used as a tool to develop critical skills and opinions based on personal thoughts.
