Process Improvement Project
Quality Tool Analysis
In the Intensive Care Unit section of the hospital the patients often need close monitoring and extra care to make the recovery experience easier, this requires better services from better trained nurses. After conducting a root cause analysis, it is evident that nurses require better equipment and the patients need more comfortable beds (Michele, 2017). There patients who have recovered but came back with back problems after sleeping in poorly conditioned beds while recovering in the hospital. Such kinds of strain may have led to permanent injury to patients who went to hospital for treatment. This issue was ascertained by the statistics taken of the patients who had been admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and came back with other health related issues after being discharged. The statistics have shown that out of every ten patients, at least seven have complained of back problems. This is alarming and requires quick attention. There is also the problem of nurses using old and worn out stretchers to move patients. This is dangerous and likely to strain both the patients and the nurses. This could potentially cause injury to the nurses and fatigue and as a result lower their performance capabilities.
Stakeholder Analysis
In creating a better Intensive Care Unit nursing practices, the hospital management has to be consulted. The stakeholders in this case is the management, the nurses, the owners of the hospital and the patients. Keeping in mind that all stakeholders have to be consulted at some point, it is important to arrange them in order of priorities to ensure that the project is successful. The diagram above separates the group of people who need special attention in the proposed improvement of the care systems. There are four groups of stakeholders to consider in each project development program; those to keep satisfied, those to monitor closely, those to keep informed and those to give minimum monitoring (Thompson, 2017).
In this case, the hospital management is the group to keep satisfied. This is because they are the mediate bosses. These are the people who manage the daily operations of the hospital including the Intensive Care Unit section. Therefore, keeping them satisfied with timely and accurate information on how the hospital operates means that they can easily support a project aimed at improving the services offered at the ICU. The hospital owners are the group to monitor closely because they hold the ultimate power but in many cases may not be very interested in new ideas. This means that the hospital owners have to be treated with extra caution to ensure that they support facility and service delivery in the Intensive Care Unit by allowing more funds to be used for the investment. The group to keep updated are the nurses. This is because, despite them being in a position where they are interested they have no power to change anything. He nurses will always offer ideas on how to make the services better which are then forwarded to the management by the supervising nurse. This makes them the group to keep updated on the progress of implementing their ideas. The patients and their relatives are the less interested people with low power. This is because they cannot easily realize that the experience at the hospital ICU section was not top notch. This means that they will only be notified that the hospital is working to improve the quality of services and that they may be required to pay a little more money and they do not protest the charges in many cases because they cannot keep their patient at home.
