Taking Inventory

The department of Homeland Security representative has to be present in the inventory team. A representative of the county, state, the federal government budgetary committees, a representative of the NGOs, one representative of the volunteers and a representative of FEMA along with the person in highest authority in the disaster prone areas. The team is important for the purposes of keeping records and drawing out plans for compensation as well find the right allocation amount for mitigation in the future. The representative of the Department of Homeland security must have adequate knowledge about the natural disasters and the appropriate responses. The representatives from the County, state and the federal government budgetary committees have to be certified auditors. This will ensure that they can easily report the situation and defend their discoveries competitively. The representative from FEMA is supposed to be familiar with the terrain where the damage had been done in order for them to tell how and what plans will be applicable in the future. The NGOs and volunteer representatives should also have adequate knowledge on how disasters affect people. The team has to ascertain the level and amount of damage, identify the state of the victims and their chance of recording their properties and finally, the team also has to evaluate the government property that has been damaged and communicate accordingly. In order to ascertain the figures of the team, a repeat exercise needs to be conducted by different people with no interests whatsoever in the area being evaluated (Najjar, 2018). This will present the government and the community with accurate and reliable data. Taking inventory after a disaster is only sensible if an inventory had been taken prior to the disaster so that when the comparison is being made, there is something to compare with. This is the only way to ascertain the amount of damage that the disasters has caused.
