Vietnamese Language and Originality

Compare the language shift among younger Vietnamese to the language shift of the larger Vietnamese group. How are they different? How are they similar? What are the implications?

The younger Vietnamese group speaks less original Vietnamese because they have grown in the United States. This means that by the time they are being born, the language has had the influence of Chinese and English over the years and a few things have changed. The Vietnamese language has been maintained by the fact that there are always a handful of first generation Vietnamese nationals moving to the United States. This means that the language they speak is different from what the American Vietnamese get to speak. The implication of this changes is that eventually, the Vietnamese generations born in the United States will keep altering the language as they use it mixed up with English and in their interaction with the Chinese in the United States. The language’s originality will be reduced over the years.
