Politeness in Evelina

A virtue is a character or trait that is termed to be an excellent moral building the foundation to living in a principled and upright moral person — individual collectiveness of good behavior engulfed with high integrity of standard actions that are good thus, avoiding the vice traits.  Unisex refers to an exhibition of qualities possessed by both male and female.

Morals Virtues of Evelina depicted from Hamilton’s Article

In Hamilton’s essay, “Monkey business,” the symbolic repudiation of expelling the monkey show how brutally those in power exploit people. From this, we can see how Evelina advocated for human generosity and benevolent virtue practice to our fellow neighbors. In [1778], Evelina was determined to know what male virtues constitute. From the conversation she had with Alexander Seton depicts that no man with moral virtues never existed something that makes her conclude how humankind was a disgrace and a paragon of masculine behavior. The standard for both sexes in regard, to feelings of others and working towards preserving the harmony of the society. Lord Orville defines Evelina as unisex because of her sensitivity, compassion, and dignity to society concerns are not portraits of a woman in our surrounding but those of men. However, I do agree with the argument that Evelina is unisex because any role or concern can be performed by both genders as long as it defines the needs and well-being of the community. Considering the feelings of our fellow neighbors should be extemporary without hurting the emotions of our friends. However, it natural that such kinds of people are hard to find but Evelina is one of the few we may encounter in our communities. People consider taking advantage of a person’s weakness as long as they realize their shortcomings. Those in power to find it hard to be humble something that makes them mistreat the emotions of others. Nevertheless, the outplay character of Evelina is majorly based on the consideration of people’s feelings and efforts made by her to restore the peace and harmony of the society mostly on the less fortunate. 

Good breeding is highly desired in social interactions as it demonstrates humanly characters that are best for the society. Any approach to the society systems of existence should be founded on good behavior characterized by propriety, politeness, compassion, and sensitivity. All these traits will ensure that the society is living peacefully without torture to the low-class individual. Evelina had the heart to treat people as equal despite their class or race. Self-centeredness is not a practice in her life since she acquired skills and knowledge from her mentors on how to treat people fairly by taking care of their feelings. Politeness Limits in Evelina

Evelina had the heart to treat people as equal despite their class or race. The willingness and interest to feature everyone equal was a character that most women do not expose. Most of the women give priority to their interest as compared to considering the needs of other people. Evelina’s attitude towards giving gratitude to treat people of lower status as equals was a trait she copied from Lord Orville. Evelina did not show off her social class in public something that meant her to gain the attention of the people and respect from the public. The act of condescending despite the rank of Evelina preserves a connection between the low levels to the disparate status she is dignified.

 Positive connotation of the behavior defines how she accepts and identifies social hierarchies without question. Due to this virtue, she is disturbed by the act of Branghtons to secure a ride because of Evelina’s class. Most women practice the vice of showing off because of the level they are in, but it is opposite to Evelina exhibiting her unisex act. Evelina was delighted of Lord Orville’s display of conversing with anyone despite inferiority, something that his sister Lady Louisa does not present but only recognize herself as superior doe cannot associate with inferior or low-class people. Her encounter with Lord Merton makes her judge him as a lowbred and uneducated man because of his complexibility and nuanced character. The person causes uneasy of the party he was with aiming to show his attention to Evelina. This act shows how Lord Merton is disrespectful and lack of manners. Evelina can overcome both the female and male challenges to show how polite she is making her a unisex virtue person. Evelina’s observation on these vice exhibited make her conclude that polite language should accumulate the needs of other through proper breeding. Sir Clement’s self-centeredness is clearing shown when he unveils his intention of showing how powerful he is over Evelina and her friends, this common awkward character by people in power to show how powerful they are but Evelina did not dare practice such as she acted simply.

The responsibility of our actions and consequences is a problem in our society. When Sir Clement assumes Evelina’s feelings and emotions after embarrassing her by choosing her as a dance partner shows how he was not a well-bred person by making her feel foolish and confused. At the end when she expresses her emotions, Clement pretends not to know the cause of making her cry yet he caused the act.

Politeness shows the ideological function of considering the feelings of others, and this can be achieved through learning of the behavior. Evelina’s behavior of politeness shows how the sense of self-effacement expected from female people in the society we live in. This is a major character to define how she fits into the female complex in our society by caring for the emotions of other people. The reaction from Evelina after embarrassment from Sir Clement reflects on the part of the society’s retaliation from those in power. Politeness is a virtue expected from every being, but from the article, it is clear that some people find it hard to adapt to the behavior. Considering the feelings of our fellow neighbors should be extemporary without hurting the emotions of our friends.

The desire for stability, unity, and sensibility in the current century has been attributed to the sense of politeness in our society. Politeness contributes to political stability, good religious relationship, scientific and economic development. Politeness behavior shapes on into modern life and end of rivalry in politics and religion patterns. This will bring mutual understanding and tolerance among us. Individuals with negative traits or vice towards this can be trained to act politely through regulation of their passion and cultivation of good taste.  Politeness is necessary to re-establishment of inequality and brutality to social harmony. In the novel, Orville’s, concern about the needs of the company display virtues of a man while a decision on the status of women in the society exposes him as manliness. Out of this, we can realize not all people can carry the traits of a right person and brutal individual, but Evelina overcame all this emerging, as the brilliant individual on human needs concern. Realizing of public interest and the general well-being of others is a technique to self-discipline and valuing the models of social patterns. 

Self Esteem and Goodwill

Evelina has ever been criticized through awkward questions from her critics even from the purported model of civility Lord Orville. Worry emerges when Orville purports to be civic turns silent when Evelina, Merton and Coverley advocate for the woman rights. Evelina stood for politeness and equality on sexuality and status inheritance a character that can only be exhibited by a gentleman with high self-esteem and goodwill. Orville’s manliness actions are further shown when he objects for cultural associations with men only forgetting women. Burney emerges as the major advocate for social grouping where the needs of various constituents representing both low and upper classes male and female are given consideration a clear indication of irreconcilable action to serve everyone in the society.  This a clear that not everyone can serve the needs of the people, some take advantage for self-gains and enrichment. 

A gentleman is recognized by public self-esteem. Lord Orville does not portray this because of his silence on preferences case about personal and class interests about women. The advocacy for Evelina shows her kindness to fight for the rights of her people something even someone who inspired her remained silent during the fight for equality in humankind.

Feminine Delicacy and Masculine Anxiety in Evelina

Male dominance in authority has been sentimental without considering the competencies are forming the hierarchy. Evelina weighs the competencies of male possession in authority mandate as compared to its prerogatives. She is against the majority rule by the male not considering equality in the political arena. England was dominated by male political ideologies that effaced women into silence and abjection in the 1790s.
