Travel and Exploration

The building, Potala Palace, with various decorations is the focal point of the artwork that
I created some time back. Most of the details in the work represent the rich Tibetan culture,
including its religion and faith. The theme of travel and exploration is important in this piece of
art because such types of buildings cannot be seen everywhere. There are chosen places where
they may be found, especially in the regions rich in the Tibetan Buddhism culture. One has to
travel to see such works. In the artwork, at the entrance, I included people who came from far off
regions to explore this culture and learn more about it. Some people in the picture can be seen
discussing and exploring in the way they observe the place.
The artwork is a type of a mirror of people’s religion, culture, and worldview. The colors
and patterns used reflect the cultural values, revealing the manner in which Buddhists in Tibet
view the universe as well as their spiritual realm. For this faith, reality centers around and begins
with Buddha. He is the aspiration and heart of worship for Tibetan Buddhists. When individuals
travel and explore a region with such buildings, they discover that such people’s culture focuses
on representing human beings’ as well as objects’ spirituality, but not people’s physical qualities.
In this piece of art, I included geometric patterns on the walls as well as the balconies and
glass windows that are part of the building. The top of the building also has a pattern of its kind.
Such geometric patterns on the surface is a feature of these people’s culture. Geometry reflects
the theme of travel and exploration. It is a feature that reflects a universal language. People

engaged in exploration reflect on life and creation’s greatness. Furthermore, I utilized different
colors in the canvas, specifically, dark brown and light yellow hues with white linings at the top
and white, gray and black colors at the bottom. It is true that travel and exploration makes every
life of a human being beautiful and exciting. Capturing the sky and the short structures alongside
the large building enhances travel and exploration theme. Moreover, the use of circles and
spherical features in the artwork introduces the aspect of the whole world and infiniteness.
Despite many people devoting their lives to travel and exploration, no one ever travels to every
corner of the earth.
Artworks with Tibetan Buddhism themes are different from those of other faiths and are
distinctive and vibrant. When travelling and making explorations, each of the Tibetan Buddhism
buildings around the globe are decorated carefully with every detail under consideration. Unlike
the art of the other religions such as that of Christians, Buddhism art does not restrict religious
work and consists of most artistic traditions from the Tibetan culture. Travel and exploration in
such artworks bring about an aesthetic appeal that is strong which transcends space and time as
well as differences in culture and language. Travel and exploration are largely considered as a
leisure; however, these are also educational activities. People move from one place that they are
familiar with to new places when they are on vacations or during special times so that they enjoy
and learn more about the new place. My artwork provides something that most people are not
familiar with and a type of work that they can learn from.
