This play is one consisting of various characters but at most it is most of time
around these four characters: Othello (a general in the Venetian Army), Desdemona
(Othello’s wife), Michael Cassio (loyal captain) and Iago (unfaithful ensign to Othello
though he trusts him) among many other characters. The play is able to reflect on various
themes such as manipulation, betrayal, racism, jealousy and marriage.
Jealousy in the play takes the destructive party when it able to control Othello to
commit various vices such as killing his wife when Iago tells him that she is unfaithful.
Iago, is able to use jealous to context the action of Othello, the same Iago had jealous at
first place. Othello’s jealous take various forms from political to sexual life. The theme of
racism is seen clearly in the play, when the father in law of Othello claims that the
different characters of his daughter is brought because of the interracial marriage with
Othello who is black. Manipulation is observed when Iago manipulates Othello that his
wife was unfaithful, because he knows that he is being trusted. Lastly, the theme of
marriage is portrayed clearly by the play when we see, Othello marries Desdemona in an
interracial marriage as explained by the father. Desdemona he is able to be killed at last
by his own husband. The aspect of marriage was important in point view of leadership,
since Othello was a general.

Sunjata: A West African Epic for the Mande peoples.
The West African culture was named after their hero known as Sunjata, therefore
they have various strong empire to recognize their epic culture. In Mande speakers, the
famous domain of bard’s oral tradition is known as griots or jeliw, who are the people
who keep the tradition live on relating the alleged deeds from one generation to the other,

The performance of Sunjata was always accompanied by various musical
instruments such as a small lute (nkoni), a twenty one string calabash (kora) or a native
xylophone (bala). (Pg. 14)The oral tradition and literature which is passed from one
generation to the other is becoming more difficult for other people to understand since the
original culture was recorded in the 20 th Century by Djanka Tassey Conde, who
descended from the Conde bards who are tracing their ancestry back before the arrival of
Islam in West Africa. The epic tells use of the great expectation surrounding the birth of
Sunjata whose heroism has long being foretold. People of Sunjata had a poem which they
sung about the power struggle that could lead to war and also it was about the
relationship of people to their place of stay and protection of their own culture. (Pg. 15)
