Egyptian Sculpture Gallery

From the video, the Egyptian Sculpture Gallery can be seen to provide a unique ether. Moreover, the atmosphere in the gallery is a representation of a memory space. The exhibit brings out various depictions of Egyptian kings. Additionally, the video is able to show symbolic objectives and deities that were common in Egypt. Furthermore, the video is to show the various architectural pieces that were gathered from tombs and temples. 

Close to the Rosetta stone, there is a stone depicting Ramesses 11. The Rosetta stone is also an important symbol and a reminder of the decryption of Egyptian hieroglyphs. The video is also a proof that huge sculptures were a common feature in the tombs and temples during the times of ancient Egypt. From the video, it is clear that the ancient architecture of Egypt was closely associated with the Egyptian sculpture. The Egyptian culture mainly focuses on the designing of tombs and temples (The British Museum, 2016). The video also shows that the Egyptian artists used ivory, bone, and clay when developing their various pieces of art. Interestingly the Egyptian statues were designed to be placed in temples and tombs. One important aspect of the statues is that the face was designed to have a straight view. The positioning of the face was a sign of eternity. The sculptures developed at the period of time where common in ritual tradition. 

The Egyptian monuments in the video bring out the idea of kingship, religion, and art. The statue of king Amenhotep was created during the 14th century. The statue is a clear representation of what an ancient Egyptian king looked like. To start with Egyptians believed that the pharaohs were half divine and half human. The statue had a number of symbols that were in line with the idea of a superhuman king (The British Museum, 2016).  From the facial structure of the face, it is evident that the king is depicted with the features of a young man. On the head of the sculpture is a head cloth. The head cloth has a cobra on the forehead. The cobra is a symbol of divine protection for the king and the kingdom. On the belt of the king, there are words that are inscribed. The words are the name of the king. Between the legs of the king, there is a bull’s tail. The bull’s tail was won by the king during special occasions. The bull’s tail was a representation of the superhuman strength possessed by the king. The throne also has a number of inscriptions that represent the names of the king and other epithets. Also, on the side of the throne, there are two papyrus bushes that represent the power and strength of the king. 

 The video brings out the fact that symbolism was a common aspect in ancient Egypt. Symbolism is seen to represent gods and the ancient kings of Egypt. The video shows how one could distinguish the hierarchy of existence based on the aspect of size (The British Museum, 2016). To start with, the gods’ sculpture was large when compared to man. On the other hand, the sculpture of the king was large when compared to that of the followers. In conclusion, the video is seen to present and bring out interesting factors of ancient Egypt. The video also helps the audience to have a clear understanding of ancient Egypt history.
