In order for everyone to live happily, both sides must learn how to work together.

In her article, “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All,” Anne Marie shows the vulnerability of the modern woman as she tries to wrestle for her social placement as well as her economic placement. The contemporary view of the world and women in particular issues a sign that women have not fully gained the position that they held in the past. The fact is that women are struggling instrumentally to acquire some of their rightful economic positions. They are in a desperate fight to see their financial status improved in such an instrumental. A reality, however, hits them that in their search for economic liberation, they lose such an instrumental part of their lives which is their social lives. In the social sphere, women are the underlying fabric that holds the society together especially in matters that regards the establishment of families. Therefore assumption of economic duties often makes them lose their position in the social sphere and most importantly, in the establishment of families as mother figures. In the modern world, women are likely to lose their social capacities once they indulge in economic affairs and therefore, all their wishes cannot be realized lest they work alongside men.

In her article, Anne defines what a successful career is for both and men. She explains that for women particularly, gaining a successful career would mean some high-end employment for instance at the policy planning state department like she has been employed. In her case, she explains how she landed into the state department which is located in New York which is the place where her office is located. She, therefore, a woman had to leave behind her family and commit herself to work as a director (Graff et al. 534). It was, therefore, such a dire loss for her as she lacked the motherly touch and care that she had towards her child.

A new study concerning government organizations and government corporations shows that there is such great interference in the family life of women who are involved in high-end jobs at the organizations.  The very first reason as to why women lose their positioning as Dell’antonia depicts is because the corporate space is not too open to women.   The author just like Anne believes that the reason that women continually lose their touch to their family is that it is up to them to wholly handle the sexist way that they are treated at work (Dell’Antonia n.p.). Therefore, she believes that there is a reason for women to look more into their corporate duties and forget their family responsibilities as they seek to counter the sexist way in which their male colleagues treat them. In the process thus, and just like Anne states, that women cannot have everything that they desire.

Some of the greatest things that women are set to realize are to see their children grow effectively. Some of the issues like seeing their children work on their homework are some of the little achievements that women will always realize. Once women land in executive jobs, for instance, they are likely to concentrate on the tasks at work and forget about such responsibilities among others. Anne for example fears that her 14-year-old kid who, “Was already resuming what had become his patter in skipping homework.” (Graff et al. 534). Therefore, since Anne is employed, there is some extra happiness that she receives while carrying out her role a mother such as seeing her son succeed in education which she may no more be able to fulfill while at work. As such, there is a substantial social role that women drop once assumed into the corporate world that makes them feel like they cannot always make a balance between their social and corporate responsibilities.

Another effect that faces women while they engage in their corporate duty is that they are faced with many barriers. Some of the issues that face the women are facts that once incorporate space are that they are faced by politics and other issues that ace the digital age (Graff et al. 535). While observation the issues that faced her while working at the state department is the fact that she was faced by political distractions that somehow changed her social involvements. In that view, therefore, the heights of corporate success are consequently faced with social distractions that insinuate that women can never be both successful in the social and economic spheres.

In the view of the issues that face while working in the corporate field is the deconstructions of the responsibilities that are placed on women. Women are culturally expected to be responsible for families alongside their husbands. Indeed, raising children is a cultural requirement that is placed upon women. It is a cultural setting that has hindered the involvement of women in various scopes of the corporate environment denying them the chance to express their abilities in the corporate estate just like their male counterparts. Once a female has landed in the corporate space, however, overwhelming responsibilities face them such that they can only make it up for the organizational duties (Christiansen, Lyng and Høyer 2). They, therefore, are expected to delegate their duties to other members of society such as their family members of the house helps. It thus becomes a social issue for most women in the corporate space. Anne, for instance, recalls how she worked at Princeton. She remembers like life at the institution and with the requirements that were so inherent she had to leave her husband with the children who were still in young, in a statement that looks like she resents doing so, yet she had to due to her work requirements.

Another critical issue that the author presents is a probable lack of understanding among women in the corporate space too. In a rather polite way, Anne explains her encounter with a colleague whose children are around the same age as her children. She describes the frustrations that she has been going through as a woman with a family and the issues that face her to her colleague who does not seem much conversant with the story. While Anne tells her of her desire to write on why women cannot be successful in the long run, Anne observes that she is quite not interested and horrified she tells her, “You can’t write that” (Graff et al. 535). In a rather instrumental manner, Anne tries to showcase the manner in which women themselves have helped the notion of women inferiority in the social sphere to be so imminent regardless of the fact that all of them are faced with the current realities of stumbling blocks.  A more objective manner of viewing fellow women as people who have been hindered from expressing themselves by societal rules is, therefore, a reason to believe that women are also part of the constructions that are hindering women from prosperity beyond the corporate world.

To set the bar higher, enlightened women like Anne continuously try to exalt the extents of feminism in the county. Feminism is about the creation of an equal society where women are allowed to pursue social, economic and political desires just like their male counterparts. The very adoption of a feminist approach in the current society is seen as an abuse to the male population (Christiansen, Lyng, and Høyer 2). It is a notion and a move that is aimed at improving the plight of women in different societal occupations. It is indeed an empowerment approach that often does not bring the awareness that it is meant to, Anne recalls, “I was increasingly aware that the feminist beliefs on which I had built my entire career were shifting under my feet” (Graft et al. 535) She therefore also agrees that the feminist approach aimed at giving women a better space in the society is the same used in their deconstructions which proves that women still cannot make it in both the financial and social spheres.

In conclusion, it is of the imminent need to observe the plight of women in the 21st century and the challenges that they face as they try to expand their economic boundaries. In real regard, women have been in the recent past been making strides to occupy instrumental posts in the corporate space. However, the same women are not able to realize some of the greatest issues that face them in the social lives such as family disengagements, the inability to raise their families as they would so desire among other such as the use of their feminist approaches to deconstruct them. It is therefore, inherently hard for a woman to be successful economically and socially. Therefore, for women to eventually realize economic and social success, both men and women must work together.
