The Strength to Love

The book, “The Strength to Love” is another book that resembles Malcolm’s autobiography. The book is a recollection of that was written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963. The book is a collection of sermons and speeches that were delivered by Dr. Martin Luther, and they have such a hefty explanation of the life of the people of the United States, the sad state of affairs where there was very little cohesion and also the increased racism and practice of racial tendencies. The book showcases a man who was in deep thought and a man who was rational enough while facing the people. He did not just take it as a leader but also as a man who had children and who would want his children to grow up in a favorable society where they are not discriminated against. The book changed my thinking of governance and attitude and behavior towards every human being just like Martin Luther Jr. I now opine that all people are born equal and should be given a fair chance to express themselves and live freely.

In the book, a speech by Dr. Martin Luther duped, “I Have a Dream” is recorded. The speech is nothing but an expression of an unequal society where the African-American race among other minorities such as Hispanics was treated with contempt. The speech expressed the many deaths that had been witnessed in the country as a result of racial discrimination and the way the government of the United States was not apologetic at all (King 1963). Reading the speech, I could figure out the exact happenings that had left the soft-spoken leader even to make a mention of dead bodies. I learned that racial discrimination is an unfair practice that is not based on real precepts but misconceptions that often lead to the death of lives.

Though Martin Luther Jr. was a Christian, his close correlation in opinion to the opinion that was held by Malcolm X is evident. The book by Martin Luther observes the general life of an African-American. He is a man who is treated as inferior and as a burden to the government of the United States. Most of those who sponsored racial discrimination in the country had the view of racial superiority. The book makes a hefty recording of how racial superiority gave rise to the formation of even schools which the black population could not attend (King 1963). It was a despicable abuse of human life based on races where no one could choose from which side to be born. From the book, therefore, I gained the concept of a nation in that was in turmoil, harassed its people and therefore, gained a better outlook of the diminishing effects of racism.

Of the touching lessons, I learned from the book is the sponsorship of mass incarcerations by the state. I learned that racism in the United States was not just the societal racism but also the institutionalized racism. It was, therefore, a nation in turmoil, a nation where people could be convicted and sentenced without adequate evidence. It was a system where people from the African-American population could not only be discriminated but also be convicted unjustly. In that spectral view, it was quite disturbing for me to learn about mass incarcerations which caused so much suffering (King 1963).  From my edge, I think that racism is not just as light as I used to take it, but it is something that needs redress to prevent its occurrence in the future.

Lastly, the book by Martin Luther Jr. changed my view of how modern societies are established. I believe that since personal efforts lead to prosperity, there are scores of individuals in contemporary America who are still not free from the yokes of racism. The minorities are still discriminated in the workplaces, and hence their economic prosperity could be lower. My attitude towards those who fall in the lower economic echelons was therefore changed upon reading the book as my understanding of historical injustices that were fought against by Martin Luther Junior, Malcolm X among others. I now have an explicit understanding that the minorities, given a chance to showcase their talent fully can also perform as well. I will, therefore, be handling everyone regardless of their race with due regard and giving everyone a fair chance to thrive and relate with me.

In conclusion, the book, “The Strength to Love” by Martin Luther King is such a classical depiction of an unequal society. The book shows a society where discrimination is the order of the day and where people struggle to survive. From the book, I learned that racism is such a hatred that has affected the vast part of the United States, affected the minority group in the social and economic affairs and also led to mass incarcerations. However, the book gives solace to the readers, and I included when it highlights that if only America sought love instead of hatred, and there would be a greater success. The book thus changed my attitude and behavior towards other races as equal humans who deserve the same treatment.
