Does the film, “Interview with the Vampire (Movie)” depict that morality is a human trait that does not apply to vampires? Throughout the film, morality is shown to vary from one aspect to the other depending on the one that talks about it. It is a kind of a horror movie that presents different views of morality with regard to the vampires and the human entity. Morality is shown as not fixed but rather as dependent on the context of the society. Nonetheless, the film shows that vampires are inherently immoral and unjustly kill people. The film also shows that the whole of the human race has a conviction of acting morally and that breaking the native human codes of morality is a matter of personal choice. The film therefore shows that morality is necessary among human beings, only that they choose not to follow moral behaviours sometimes. On the other hand, it shows that vampires are inherently immoral and do not have the least sense of moral behaviour. The livelihoods of humans and vampires in the film “Interview with the Vampire (Movie)” vividly indicates that morality is a human trait that vampires do not subscribe to.
Anne’s film concentrates on some practices that are taboos but are not seen among humans. The taboo topics that she focuses on are some amongst homosexuality and incest. Cases such as incest are moral codes that are so much desisted. Lestat is a vampire who is paedophilic and engages in incest with a child (“Watch Interview with the Vampire HD Online Free |”). He is however not faced off by other vampires, yielding an assumption that vampires do not see an issue with paedophilia and incest. Humans on the other hand detest such activities as they believe that they are against moral behaviour. In that essential view, therefore, the film presents that there is some kind of morality among human beings. The film thus presents morality as necessary but one that vampire families do not consider as much unlike humans who could have for instance resisted paedophilia.
Thought the film presents morality as a human trait, it still presents it as comparative depending on personal view. In that spectral view, the film shows that issues that were traditionally taboos across the human race as being accepted among some people while still not accepted in some societies (Bassett n.p.). For instance, in white society, homosexuality is generally accepted while in the black society the same is not accepted. The film, however, bases morality more on the preservation of human life. Anything that endangers human life is thus immoral as per the human perspective. The vampires are however thirsty of human blood, and it is their joy to carry out vicious expeditions where they kill humans and eat them off (Wasson 198). As a confirmation that vampires are immoral, Dracula in the film “Dracula” is a vampire that secretly survives on human blood. For instance, he tries to kill Harker several times to drink his blood but fails (Lohnes n.p.). The very activity of killing innocent humans in both films is therefore a proof enough morality is only upheld by humans while vampires do not condone morality.
In conclusion, the film, “Interview with the Vampire” is a classic film that presents a string of moral issues to think about in consideration of humans and vampires. The film shows that morality is actually a human trait though it could vary from place to place and with regard to personal convictions. On another edge, the film depicts vampires as inherently immoral. They ignorantly kill humans and do not question issues such as paedophilia and incest since they do not question Lestat for such engagements. From the film, therefore, the conclusion that morality is a human trait while it is not a vampire trait stands out.
