Peer Review

  1. How well do you think the writer integrates fact and thought? Where is it nothing but fact? Where is the paper making vague generalizations without reference to any facts? Be specific for the writer. If facts are missing, help them supply quotations or passages from the paper that will support and develop their vague assertions.

Generally, the author seems to put some significant efforts in analyzing the sorry. However, there is need to ensure that he establishes a balance between the context he gives and the original story. The balance is important in ensuring that the description is clear to the reader thus able to connect how different events take place. When I read the essay, I feel that the author has assumed some important information relevant to give flow to the story. There is a general assumption that I have read the story thus denying me a chance of understanding different stages of the story. The situation creates some confusion on the writer who has to use intuition to guess what happens in different contexts. It is important that the author considers highlighting important sections of the story throughout the essay to influence understanding by the reader. An example of missing details is evident in the manner the author writes about court room but does not tell events that take place in this stage but jumps to write about de Spain Mansion.

  1. Look at each transition from sub-topic to sub-topic. Where is the transition abrupt or unsettling? Where does the paper lack “signposts” to let you know where you’ve been and where you’re going? Where does the writer provide perfunctory transitions like “another reason”? Where do things seem out of order to you?

There is evidence of poor transitioning in different paragraphs of the paper where a reader does not get a smooth flow of ideas in the essay. The transition between second and third paragraph is confusing and negatively affects the flow of the essay. Indeed, though there is evidence of proper transitions in some of the paragraphs, the story breaks anomaly. For a reader without prior expose to Barn Braining story, it is hard to understand the different characters as written by the author. Further, the reader finds it challenging to identify significance of de Spain.  The author further lacks clear transition that helps reader understand how different characters get in de Spain residence and the objective of their visit. Additionally, the author adds confusion by bringing idea of de Spain as he starts the essay while in reality the residence is mentioned towards the end in the original story.

  1. Now, look at each individual quotation. Is there enough contexts to make the quotation sensible? Is there commentary that indicates the importance of the quotation to the writer’s point? Where could he explain or analyze the quotation in more detail?

A number of quotations the author uses are out of context and do not make significant sense in supporting the essay. The quotations are generally hanging with no supporting evidence to create flow of ideas in the essay. Indeed, the author requires considering using more relevant examples from the story to support different ideas in the quotes. Supporting quotes with adequate information will help in making argument in the essay stronger. The incident will also support flow of ideas in the essay making it interesting to the reader. However, there are quotes such as those that give idea of Sarty planning to disown and leave his family that shows proper use of quotations. There are also other few examples that are evident from second paragraph and the last paragraph in the essay.

  1. Comment on the overall feeling of the paper. Does the author seem to know what he’s doing? Do you have confidence in his conclusions? Does the writer present herself as knowledgeable? Thoughtful? Well-informed? A careful reader?

The author has basic idea of things he wants to present to the reader but lacks enough contexts to support his ideas. I am confident that the author could have an outstanding argument if he gets more details from the story to support his arguments. The additional informational is important in making the essay have a flow of ideas and this will boost its attractiveness to the reader. Overall, the essay presents significant analysis but lacks enough evidence from the story to support them. The low evidence makes the paper lack the cohesiveness and denies reader an opportunity to identify with the original story. The author seems confused and fails in providing reliable information that would boost the flow of his essay. Indeed, it is important the author considers providing more quotation in his essay in addition to textual evidence.
