Love is a Battlefield

The metaphor, “Love is a battlefield” is a metaphor that has been used in the world for so long. The Metaphor is a reflection of love and what love entails (Maner and Ackerman, 2). It tries to persuade people to understand that love has ever been present. However, it is not as expressive as people think. The very thought of love makes people feel about it as something that is just fancy. Viewing love, people think that it is just an intimate encounter where people, who are in love live peacefully, go for vacations together, walk into some places of pleasure together and live such a wonderful life as the name itself suggests. Most of the people especially the youth never understand that love calls for sacrifice. The metaphor however could have a positive or a negative impact depending on the way that it is viewed by the person viewing it.

Thinking of love as a battlefield, one tends to think of a dangerous zone. The thinking of a battleground will probably make one think of the soldiers who are fighting for their country and defending their people. Love is, therefore, a battlefield because there are scores of enemies to face. The enemies, in this case, are personal differences and issues that come externally. The metaphor thus is meant to make the readers realize that being in love will not be peaceful. Their input will be essential in determining whether their love will live on. Just like soldiers who are fighting for their country, people in love are fighting to safeguard their love. The metaphor is, therefore, a call to action that informs people in love that they are the only people that can fight against every opposition to make their love to stand the various issues they are meant to go through. In this way, I think the metaphor can be said to be helpful because it helps to train people to strengthen their relationships.

On the other hand, there is still the ability for the metaphor to be viewed in the wrong way. The very view of a battlefield could be one that makes people think that there is no need to be in love. Some people who fear wars could view love as not necessary. The metaphor could necessarily be said to be a warning for people who are yet to be in a relationship. They could think that they are warned against falling in love simply because the metaphor makes them fear to be in love. In that view, the metaphor could be said to be misinterpreted. The metaphor has a bad influence on people who are yet to be in relationships and could make love be viewed as non-beneficial.

In conclusion, the metaphor, “Love is a battlefield” is a metaphor that addresses a real-life issue. It considers the matter of love which is something that affects everyone across the world. The very intention of the metaphor was to make people in relationships to be more careful in safeguarding their relationship. In my thinking, the metaphor is meant for the best intention which is the safeguarding of relationships. There are however people who may have the view that the meaning of the metaphor is to show that love is a dangerous ground that they should never think about. I, therefore, think that the metaphor has the probability of being both helpful and harmful depending on personal interpretation.
