The little that is said only talks about his in depth knowledge of the workings of government, economics and the day he died. Alexander Hamilton played a key role in the development of the constitution of the United States of America. He led the battle of Yorktown despite his young age and immigrant roots. However, little to no information is available about the man himself. The very stubborn man, who despite being a penniless orphan, rose through the ranks to make something of his life. The little boy’s luck changed when he was sponsored to study in the colonies. From then he went on to become one of General George Washington’s indispensable men. The details of his complex relationship with General Washington are interesting, beginning with the fact that their bond was formed during the Revolutionary War. Many questions are answered about the thoughts of this extremely bright founding father.

Philip Thomas Tucker delves deep into Alexander Hamilton’s personal life to reveal what truly made him tick. The book is well researched and flows effortlessly. Despite a few flaws, this is a good read for history enthusiasts. There is one fatal flaw though, the author says John Baylor instead of George Baylor. For that, the book gets 3.5 out of five
