Rene Bernard by John Mac Dougall

Rene` Bernard was one of the greatest painters in the Bohemian era. To think his life could have taken a different direction is just scary and unfathomable. Due to a sickness as a child, Rene` could not be part of the family trade. His sister is the reason he took the path to art. His life was an intricate web of twists and turns. A web that eventually led him to his calling. This just goes to show that one’s destiny will always be fulfilled regardless of the path they are on. 

The author has created a delightful tale about the famous artist. The reader is able to walk through the childhood and life of Rene`. You are able to immerse yourself in the French culture in a fishing village then later follow Rene` as he brings joy to the world with art. The story begins with a focus on peripheral characters. You get to see the life that could be for Rene` before finally walking into what was. This book is an experience in itself. 

The book carries a certain French spirit. From the sentence structures to the tone and even the mood of the book. It is soothing and welcoming. This is a book you read when you have all the time in the world to enjoy the nuance. The author’s writing style works well to further immerse the reader into the literary experience. 

Well written, Gripping. And, oh so charming. This is an excellent read. Five stars out of five for Rene` Bernard
