The plot is set in Italy. I love how the authors introduced us to the characters. Meet Anderson Marks one of the main characters, is a man who loved elegance. He had a thing for designer clothes, was neat and loved to look good; A habit that was common among him and his two brothers. From the first chapter, I could tell a little about Anderson. A man who wore a shirt which had his initials embroidered not only loved self but shows a bit of pride in his personality. His encounter with Lelah Ghassan, an immigrant girl from Syria, added a little action to the chapter.
Lelah’s past was full of challenges. I could tell from her tone that all she felt was agony. Anderson stood there, lending Lelah an ear as she recounted her tragic journey. She narrated how she saw people drown, others getting beaten by soldiers, how women got sexually assaulted and how children got separated from their families; she was running away from bad guys. The book started on a sad note for me. Lelah Ghassan’s story and mentioning the death of Anderson’s father in a plane crash were excruciating to read.
The characters, especially the main character and his connection with others and the events around him made this book fantastic. I enjoyed reading about Anderson, and the relationship between his brothers Easton and Bailey. Anderson always thought about his brothers. I loved that trait in him. All the three were different; Easton was a little touchy and dearly loved his siblings. Bailey was scholarly and most authoritative among the three.
