The Day That A Ran Away

The first thing that caught my eye was the how colorful the pictures in the book were. The illustrator is nothing but talented, and he was able to hypnotize the reader with the drawings. Being a children’s book the illustrator used colorful and appealing images, that children under the age of ten love. Reading this book with a child is not only a pleasant experience but also good for the child’s perfection of their grammar.

One thing I really loved was that the author started every sentence in an alphabetical manner.  In that, page six started with letter B, page 7 started with letter C, page 8 started with letter D and so on. He did this throughout the book, with an exemption of the first and last letters of the alphabet. He still found a genius way of inserting the letters in the sentences, to fit his style. That was a creative way of writing a children’s book. “Today was the day that A ran away. B was so sad that she didn’t stay. C left as well; he wanted to play. D’s scared of school and went into hiding. E followed next. I think he went riding.” reads a part of the book.

 BCR  Fegan obviously knows how to capture a child’s interest in reading. This book is good for every kindergarten kid, as it doesn’t have bulky texts or a complex story; just how kids love their books. There is a little rhyming in the words used, which makes it more fun to read. Children love rhyming words, as they easily remember new vocabulary and words they perhaps find difficult.

Every page has something good to talk about. If not the simple stories, then it has to be the pictures. The illustrator used bold colors and created different characters with different traits. A child reading this will evidently love the characters, as they are both distinct and stunning. Page 24 is among my favorite pages. The painting of the tree being carried by the two men was the first thing that caught my eye. It is amazing how absorbing a simple image can be. Art is beautiful. The illustrator added an aesthetic a fantastic touch on the book, that I couldn’t stop marveling at the characters he created. 

The sentences used are also simple for a six-year-old mind. The story of Master jet is fun to read. I enjoyed his character and that of his teacher. I love how the story ended. Mrs. May was comforting Master jet, telling him not be sad, for those who ran away will pay for their crimes.

“The Day That A Ran Away” is a great book. Definitely deserves a 5/5 rating because of how well the story flows and how beautiful the images are. I would totally give every kindergarten going child I know this book because I know it is something they would enjoy reading.
