The success of the activities of any healthcare organization depends entirely on how it manages its information. Lin argues that the solution to given problems in an organization relates to how effectively it manages its information (Lin 1). To succeed in information management, many organizations have resorted to the application of computers in its operations. The application of Information technology in healthcare information management has registered a positive progress in cubing the problems related to information organization (Lin 1). The object of this essay is to evaluate the effects of introducing science, and computers on the healthcare organizations to manage its information.
Information technology has registered a milestone in organizing patient’s information. With this in place, the healthcare organizations find it easy to trace the medical history of a patient without going the unnecessary burden of perusing the manual filings. All the details of a patient can be transferred from one department to another without the patient’s physical appearance to each of the stated departments. As Lin argues that with Information technology there can exist a well-managed network of information within and outside the healthcare organizations (Lin 37). The free flow of information from one department to another reduces physical congestion and crowding of patients which can be in turn a perfect environment for the spread of diseases.
Within the healthcare organization, apart from the various advantages noted, there lies many weakness it possesses including but not limited to, lack of proper trust to the infrastructure. The physicians/ nurses in the organization are covered with fear that the computers may replace their physical being thus lose their jobs. The tensions created, therefore results in an inadequate performance as there is limited motivation.
To end, the integration of computers into the healthcare information management system has improved greatly on the success of the healthcare organizations. To strengthen the nursing informatics, more user-friendly systems should be availed to ensure smooth interactions within the organization.
