Personal SWOT Analysis

A SWOT analysis is a common tool used in the professional world to evaluate the past, present, and future position of a business (Thomas, 2007). Similarly, a SWOT analysis is not only a tool for business, and it can especially be helpful for nurse professionals in evaluating their goals and aspirations. Thus, with the goal of graduating and practicing as an APRN, this journal entry gives a complete brief of my SWOT analysis, which will help guide my career as a certified APRN.

Under my strengths, I am determined to reach my APRN goals, which is one of my greatest strengths. I am also capable of undertaking complex decision making related to patient care, which has also contributed to being able to work independently. On my weaknesses, I have a strong and compulsive need to rush things through and clear my to-do list. As an aspiring APRN, this might affect the quality of my work. Similarly, the need to complete things quickly also causes me stress when I have too many tasks that need to be completed within a specific period, but I cannot handle it. On opportunities, I am increasingly interested in the current innovations that have simplified the delivery of healthcare models. Along with that, the APRN s a diverse practice, which opens a lot of job opportunities for the professionals. The professionals also have the potential to influence healthcare from the grassroots all the way to the top policymakers.  On threats, there is a severe staff shortage, which may lead to increased work demand and in the end stress and staff burnout. There also lacks a unified agreement and definition of the scope of practice and roles for the APRN.
