Cloud computing has been referred to as the next big thing. In light of this, this paper will look at the perspectives of Bruque-Cámara et al. (2016) and Victor et al. (2014) and their analysis on cloud computing.

Theory

Bruque-Cámara et al. (2016) focused on making an analysis of the effects brought about by community cloud computing on supply chain integration. The study further did an analysis of the effect of community cloud computing and physical-informational supply chain integration of a firm’s operational results. The study found out that the community cloud has a positive effect on the information-physical integration of supply chains, as well as, on operational performance (Bruque-Cámara et al., 2016). The study’s importance has been hinged on the fact that the study provided academicians and practitioners with an understanding of how cloud computing, though new, has the potential to increase operational performance in supply chains.

Victor et al. (2014) started their study with the realization that cloud computing has potential, especially where software is provided as service through the internet. The study explains the different problems that are solved by cloud computing such as battery life, storage, and bandwidth, that come with mobile devices. In addition, cloud computing helps to address the cost factor by solving the above-mentioned factors. Though the study is aware of the opportunities cloud computing provides, it presents a challenge on the security and privacy of services. The study further summarizes the architectures and models used in cloud computing.

Case Example

Cloud computing has been shown to reduce costs by offering technologies that have the capability to connect thousands if not millions of devices. Through this, it has been demonstrated to reduce costs substantially. Take for example the concept of redundancy as explained by Zhou et al. (2010). It is costly when done on an individual company level but almost free when done on the cloud platform.

Conclusion

Cloud computing is a highly regarded topic in today’s computing world. According to Low, Chen, and Wu (2011), different factors determine whether an organization is likely to adopt cloud computing. On top of such factors was a relative advantage of the technology. It, therefore, means that the success of the technology lies in its problem-solving abilities. Earlier, such problems were identified. In supply chains, it has been demonstrated that cloud computing has a clear advantage.
