Introduction

Present times have been shaped by the numerous attempts to make a difference in the world. Most of the efforts are directed at solving social issues affecting the environment. A calculation of the environmental footprint proves the need of every individual to have an active role in protecting the environment. The current situation proves that in case the current situation continues, in the future, the world will not be conducive for living.

Presently, 40 % of the United States locales are polluted; an element necessitating the need for every individual to protect the environment. Today, I will tell you about the roles of every person in protecting the environment. I will discuss; 1) the use of reusable bags, 2) recycling, and 3) avoiding the use of private vehicles and considering the use of alternative means.

Body

I. The use of reusable bags.

A. – Plastic grocery bags have been on the rise. After use, they end up being disposed into land pits. They are made in such a way they are indecomposable.

– Every individual uses bags to carry groceries from stores to their homes.

– After use, the plastic bags are disposed of.

– The use of reusable bags by every individual will guarantee the cutting down of the amount of litter in the environment. This is one of the incidences proving that every individual has an active role in protecting the environment by considering the use of reusable bags.

The use of reusable bags has seen a decrease in the level of environmental pollution by 80%, as most of the pollutants were plastic paper bags (Qinglei, Mei, & Dashuai, 2008). It is an indication that every individual has a role to ensure they consider the use of reusable organic plastic bags, instead of plastic bags.

B. Example

In the United States, the administration has advocated for every individual to have a role in promoting the use of the organic reusable bags as a replacement to the plastic bags – an element that has protected the environment.  

II. Recycling.

1. – Every individual has a role in protecting the environment by recycling.
2. Recycling means seeking alternatives to using products, instead of disposing of them.
3. Every person can protect the environment by recycling materials in the surrounding – a role that will guarantee the protection of the environment.
4. Supporting material

According to Pulido & Frank (2013), the recycling practices enacted in Texas have been effective in protecting the environment and have reduced environmental pollution by 60%. When compared to the United States, in developing nations recycling is not practiced and individual lack roles in protecting the environment, which translates to high levels of environmental pollution.

• Example

The role of Texas citizens to protect the environment by recycling has enhanced the protection of the environment and ensuring there is no pollution.

III. Avoiding the use of private vehicles and considering the use of alternative means.

1. –  The use of public means of transport reduces the amount of air pollution.
2. Individuals ought to practice the use of alternative means of transport, which do not pollute the environment.

1. The use of electric trains guarantees the protection of the environment as it has no associated air pollution.

2. According to Ogasa (2008), should every individual assume the use of electric trains, rather than the use of private vehicles, they will be playing the role of protecting the environment.

B. Examples

California uses electric trains to ferry citizens across its towns while developing nations use vehicles. It is a clear indication that California individuals assume the roles of protecting the environment.

Conclusion

            So today I have explained to you about the active role of every individual in protecting the environment. I have explained to you my three main points: 1) the use of reusable bags, 2) recycling, and 3) avoiding the use of private vehicles and considering the use of alternative means. Therefore, it becomes clear that every individual has a role in protecting the environment in every circle of life.
