Legal Issues

The poor waste management from the radioactive remains in form of energy packed pellets that are poorly dumped and managed for years. This comes as a result of the lack of a long-lasting and safer storage mechanism for nuclear waste. The wastes emit radioactive particles that affect the human tissues and organs hence posing a health menace to the citizens of the United States (Onion, 2013).

After the deadly Fukushima Daiichi accident, NISA was abolished and Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) established in 2012. The NRA was charged with the responsibility of working with the ministry of environment in the formulation of safety policies (Matsui, 2017).

In the United States, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) is charged with the responsibility of ensuring safety based on nuclear reactor materials. This is an independent agency established in 1974 (Fullwood, 1999). The commission is headed by a chairperson and the entire body formulates and enacts policies and regulations on the safety of every citizen in relation to nuclear reactors. Under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, nuclear energy facilities in the United States are only licensed for at least forty years and can be renewed if necessary (Rees, 2009).

The French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust was initially formed by the Sam Morris and Eleanor with a major aim of preserving the environment, especially in the northern Chester County, by ensuring proper management and protection of natural features and wildlife habitats. The open space is also protected under this Trust hence limiting the emission of the nuclear wastes into space (Brewer, 2004).
