Moral Decision Making

I do not believe that I have a specific moral decision-making process, but I identify with all the stages discussed by Kohlberg in one way or another. Firstly, I used to make moral decisions based on my ego, and I would choose to do something because it benefited me. This resonates to the first stage of the decision-making process. The second phase of my growth resonates around the second and third stages of moral decision making, since I used to make decisions that were popular and those that were agreeable by many people. I relate entirely to the different stages, and I have shown development in various stages of my life.

Yes, I make moral decisions differently at this stage compared to earlier points in my life. As a young person, I used to make rush decisions, not caring about how that would affect the people around me or me. However, I have grown up and I tend to make decisions based on different factors. Firstly, I make decisions based on the outcomes, as well as, how they would affect the people around me. Additionally, I have come to depend on certain people to help me make decisions, but I still take my time to evaluate them and consider the outcomes first.

One of the most significant examples of a situation where I had to decide at an earlier point in my life is when I was in my senior year in high school. My friends threw a party, and I knew that I was not allowed to attend the party. However, all the people in my class were going and I did not see the reason why I should not go. The idea of staying away did not sit well with me, so I made a moral decision based on popular demand, and I did not care what my parents would think about my choice.

I believe that I made one of the best choices in my life, most recently. I have had the chance to grow up through different experiences, and I have come to appreciate morality and the process that is involved in making decisions. I moved from a person who was making decisions based on popular demand to someone who makes a moral decision because I know it is the right thing to do. I chose to go to school and concentrate on my studies rather than engaging in other activities too much. This is an essential moral decision because it has helped me ground myself and I am in a better position make sound ethical choices.

My style of reasoning is related to that of Kohlberg’s stages of the theory of moral development because I did not make decisions out of peer pressure and popular demand. I do not decide because they are more acceptable or are being done by many people. That is how I came to realize that my process of making moral decisions has shifted and that I try to make a better judgment because I know it is the right thing to do as a human being.
