COMBATING DRUG ABUSE AT THE WORKPLACE

According to the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 it is a requirement of every employer to ensure that activities of drug usage, manufacture and distribution are absent in his organization. Moreover, drug abuse in an organization often leads to an unproductive workforce. It also may lead to accidents and poor ethical standards. With this regard, it is necessary to identify ways in which the crisis can be solved.

To get ready for this presentation, five sources were identified an internet library. For them to pass as usable, all the sources required to be peer reviewed journals. This removed the possibility of these journals presenting unfounded opinions that were accepted by individual persons or sheer biases.

The sources selected were also expected to contribute in different aspects of the performance. This way, they would bring about a more complete essay that shared a variety of information from various sources. The information presented was then reviewed to ensure that it was still relevant to the current society. Dates were used, but they did not disqualify a source automatically. Below is a list of sources selected with the part they are likely to play to the presentation.

“Drug Addiction and Drug Abuse.” Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6Th Edition (2013): 1-4. This source was accessed to provide insight on drug abuse. It explains what drug abuse is and gives a variety of forms of drug abuse. The information provided would serve as a foundation for the presentation.

Horwitz, Betty. “The Role of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD): Confronting the Problem of Illegal Drugs in the Americas.” Latin American Politics & Society 52.2 (2010): 139-165. This source provides information on the prevalence of drug abuse in both the Latin America and the United States of America. It also shows the importance of the two countries to co-ordinate and fight drug abuse together. The CICAD was founded for this purpose. The article analyses the importance of this body in the fight of drug abuse.
