The Role of Federal Government

The New Deal transformed the role of the federal government in various ways. It charged the federal government with the role of providing financial support to various social programs. The government was also more intent to create jobs for the population to reduce the impact of poverty on the population. The Social Security Act, for example, was the government’s attempt to lower the impact of poverty on the people (University of Carlifornia n.p.). Other policies were also created to eradicate poverty. The Works Progress Administration funded artists to arrange and create public art projects hence creating job opportunities and encouraging people to engage in art as a way to reduce the impact of poverty on the population.

The Great Society sought to reduce the level of poverty in the population. It was effective in reducing the level of poverty from more than 22.2 % to about 13 % at which level the government has strived to maintain (Williams 230). The federal government took up the role of intervening in the role of poverty by developing various proposals that would lead to an ability for people to change their welfare. The Great Society created ways for people to raise their own levels of income rather than providing funds to them in the form of handouts.

The federal government was also charged with the role of improving the accessibility to education through a series of intervention programs including grants, scholarships, work-study programs and the higher education legislations. This role of the federal government made education available to every individual who was willing and capable to study. The ability to attain a high education level improved the chances of getting higher incomes for the US populations.

The Reagan Revolution began after President Reagan got into power in the early 1980s. President Reagan was of the opinion that liberalism was misplaced and supported a more conservative government (Williams 261). The Reagan administration also proposed a lower participation of the government in reducing the level of poverty. This was by reducing allocated to social programs like education and healthcare among others.

The federal government has been transformed intensely since the early 1930s under the presidency Roosevelt. Roosevelt was instrumental in amassing power in the presidency. Moreover, he saw to the introduction of federal income tax and the New Deal. Over the years, the federal government sought ways to reduce poverty in the USA. With the changes in the government system, the government found the need to implement various policies to measure up to the roles the government played.

The New Deal Deal came during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. It came in the form of various policies that sought to ease the impact of the great depression on the population. It came with programs that aided diverse groups like the Federal Emergency Relief Administration and the Civil Works Administration, which came to the aid of projects around 1933-1934 (University of Carlifornia n.p.). The Wagner Act came to the aid of labor unions along with the Works Progress Administration thereby making the federal government the single largest employer. The New Deal also brought about the social security act. The Great Society of the 1960s came in the form of various policies that charged the federal government with the role of providing essential services to the community. The Reagan Revolution of the 1980s saw the government, enabling people to engage in business with minimum regulation. There was also the government’s condemnation of communist systems in the international arena.
