The Gasland – Movie Review

The film begins with Fox’s reception of a letter requiring him to lease out his family’s land. He eventually yields and participates in attempts to sensitize the people in the community against the effects of natural gas in the community. Specifically, natural gas is found to pollute the air and the water causing chronic diseases which are a threat to human life.

The methods used in drilling the gas are dangerous to human life. Individuals who live in the area near the mines are said to live in an area classified as the red zone. The area is completely dangerous to human life and they should move from their land to other areas.

The water in the area has also been polluted by fracking. On attempting to investigate the impacts of certain methods of drilling on the environment, the organization, Fox lights the water and notes that it has traces of crude oil or natural gas. This is an indication that the water has been polluted. This, Fox argues, is as a result of the poor methods of drilling. Drilling also leads to the release of chemicals into the water. Some of these chemicals have been proven to cause birth defects, cancer, and nervous system disorders. The process also leads to the unearthing of many chemicals that re also regarded as dangerous to the environment and mankind. In conclusion, the film Gasland documents the dangers posed by drilling of gas in certain parts of the US. The gases released to the environment may contribute to certain respiratory conditions. Moreover, fracking causes release of chemicals into both the water and the environment. As a consequence, people may ingest it and risk getting conditions such as cancer and infertility
