Determinism

Everything occurring in the universe has a cause and is viewed as determinism. It is governed and entirely dependent on the causal law. Deterministic believe that human actions and all other events are predetermined hence, determinism is seen to be incompatible with free will. Free will is the theory that human beings are free to choose whatever they want or have self-determination. For example, a person could have done other than what he did. It has been argued that free will is incompatible with determinism.

The belief that human’s deeds are as a result of antecedent causes has been formulated naturalistically and theistically. Human beings are part of the machinery from a naturalistic point of view. Every event is as a cause of preceding events in this world. Antecedent causes determine the human actions as he is part of the causal chain. The environment and human’s genetic makeup may be the result of these causes. The genetic and environmental factors control all human behavior. These factors do not eliminate the fact that human have a provision to make choices as well as the possibility that the choices are free. A philosophical argument states that, all human behavior may either be wholly uncaused, self-caused or externally caused. Naturalistic determinism causes are heredity and externally caused by the environment, whereas theistic determinisms are based on believing that all human behavior is caused externally by God.

Free will is the necessary greatest good of every man. His actions are the means to this end. Committing evil is as a result of ignorance as to the right means to the actual ideal. Virtue determines the will through the knowledge of the real. The world and God are one as rigid laws govern all the world’s movements. All factors, unvaried causality unity of design, prophesy, fatalistic government and foreknowledge excluding chance are free wills. The modern hedonistic followers modify determinism and advocates free will.
