Superscripts and Subscripts

This paper seeks to focus on the ambiguity experienced in spatial mathematical relationships. Particularly; the paper will discuss a superscript relationship using the fuzzy logic approach to tackle the ambiguity in the example that will be provided as a subscript relationship.

A subscript character cannot be considered as an ordinary character. This is because there is a variation by typeface and by use in the movement of a superscript from the initial baseline. In Computer Science and Mathematics, both subscripts and superscripts are used to denote a radix, also known as the base of a number. Fuzzy logic or approach is important in defining and determining the uses of superscripts and subscripts. A superscript appears above the baseline of base numbers, while subscripts appear below the baseline of base numbers. However, there are difficulties in coming up with a collective agreement on the ‘correct’ interpretation of a superscript expression. Therefore, a computer may also experience difficulties in coming up with a single reliable interpretation of superscripts and subscripts in all given instances or cases.

An example of a commonly used superscript in the modern world is the. This mark denotes a relationship between the original owners of the trademark and the trademark itself. The relationship is therefore a ‘seal of ownership’, which means that no other entity is allowed or is at freewill to use the trademark. Therefore, the aforementioned superscript example addresses the disjointness constraint. This constraint addresses the uncertainties in which a supertype can be allowed to be a member of more than one subtypes. This implies that only the disjoint rule applies to the example given.

In conclusion, this paper has used the fuzzy logic or approach to substantiate the use of the  superscript as an example. The paper has further outlined the various uses and differences between in subscripts and superscripts and their Mathematical relations.
