12 Angry Men Juror 3 character Analysis

12 Angry Men is a film written by Reginald Rose and co-produced in 1957 by Rose and others. The film presents a story of 12 jurors deliberating about whether an accused person is guilty or not (Boulanger-Mashberg, 2012). One of the prominent characters in the film is the 3rd Juror, represented by Lee J. Cobb in the film. The 3rd juror is represented as a distraught father and a business person. He has not met with his son for two years after the son punched him on the face (Boulanger-Mashberg, 2012).

During the deliberation of the case, the 3rd juror seems to be hostile and hateful to the accused. He seems to be intolerant to the accused and opinions of the other jurors. He is also short-tempered, pessimistic, slightly sadistic and stubborn (Boulanger-Mashberg, 2012). The opinions of the third juror seem to be biased since he believes that the accused must be guilty, even though there is no enough evidence to show that the accused is guilty beyond reasonable doubt. From his body language, the 3rd juror seems angry and aggressive when replying to others (Boulanger-Mashberg, 2012).

The 3rd juror leads in the play as a stubborn person who is not ready to accept the truth even in the conclusion of the play (Boulanger-Mashberg, 2012). However, he changes his decision after determining the other 11 jurors are not ready to support him, and all vote that the defendant is not guilty. After hours of arguing with the other jurors, the 3rd juror finally gave in when he realized that he could not convince the others to change their view (Boulanger-Mashberg, 2012).
